Baboy! Alis Amoy!
In the urban area of Brgy. Ugong, Pasig City, there are entrepreneurs who raise swine on their backyard as the source of their income. But these entrepreneurs encounter complaints from their neighborhood regarding the foul odor coming from the manure and urine of their pigs.
To resolve this problem, City Councilor and Chairman, Committee on Ecology and Environment protection, Alexee Santiago seek help and found the Effective Microorganism or EM-1. This product is made of mixed culture of aerobic and anaerobic beneficial bacteria that are safe to our environment.
With the help of City Councilor Alexee Santiago, Kagawad Michael Bernardo (Clean and Green Coordinator), Kagawad Florencio Cruz, Harbest Agribusiness Corporation and EM Reseach Philippines Inc. (EMRPI), Baboy, Alis Amoy! Project started last March 9, 2011 by introducing the EM-1 to the officers and some members of Ugong Backyard Piggery Association in Brgy. Ugong, Pasig City.
Harbest Agribusiness Corporation and EMRPI taught the backyard swine raisers how to activate the EM-1 so it would be more cost effective and the proper dilution of the EM Activated solution (EMAS) per liter of water.  The actual application on the area started March 14, 2011.

Five selected members agreed to give their piglets 0.5ml pure EM-1 for every one liter of water daily. Some of them, after they cooked and cool the food (kaning baboy) added pure EM-1 and feed this on their piglets.
A group of backyard swine raisers is located at Eagle St. in Brgy. Ugong, Pasig City near Rockwell building site. Most of the group members sprayed ½ liter of EM Activated Solution (EMAS) per square meter of their pig pens to disinfect the floors, walls, and canals after cleaning. Some of them mixed the EMAS in a drum of water and used this in cleaning their pig pens.
After a week of spraying EMAS the cooperators together with their neighbors already noticed the difference before and after using EM. There was an enormous reduction of odor intensity within their area. Until now they continue using it.

Testimony of Swine Raisers from Brgy. Ugong, Pasig City on EM-1

Glicerio A. Rubin

The neighborhood around the piggery also experiences the change after those swine raisers used EM-1.

Amelia Macaraig (Purok 3, Brgy. Ugong, Pasig City)

Cristina Dulay (C. Santos St., Brgy. Ugong, Pasig City)

Mr. Romy Sta. Ana is the president of Brgy., Ugong Piggery Association
